Today is one of the sacred days in my workshop cal

Today is one of the sacred days in my workshop calendar! For several years now I've had the deep pleasure of helping out with skirting at @bluepepperfarm , a wonderful sheep dairy in Upper Jay NY. It is sometimes bitter cold but today was sunny and we were quite comfy in shirt sleeves. I dearly love weaving with East Friesian wool, and I love even more being part of the entire process, seeing the good care given to these healthy animals, sorting and bagging the fleeces, designing and weaving, and finally handing the best blankets I can make back to Shannon and Tyler. Being an integral part of the whole process is a blessing to me. My studio assistants and I took the whole day as a mental health re-charging session. It was wonderful....images are unshorn sheep, the view of Whiteface from the skirting table, the skirting table, the first sheep shorn, our skilled helpers in loading the truck, the last sheep shorn, and the shorn flock. Tomorrow is back to work inside, but today was sunny breezes, laughing friends, hard working hands, and backs, in some gorgeous fleeces, and reconnecting to the whole process.

So many projects starting off this week....those 5

So many projects starting off this week....those 5 cones are breed specific wools, and wool/hemp blends going off to be made into knit swatches for the #hvtextileproject Annual Summit on April 9 (register now at www.hvtextileproject.org). Breeds are L to R, Lincoln, East Friesian, Finn, Wool-hemp blend, and Wenslydale! Last washed skeins before a massive dyeing project for @hurricanehillri turns into a massive weaving project! @otter_lake_farm has a gorgeous run of Gotland-Romeldale nearly finished in a granite weave for sewing yardage; a beam of 58 inch wide Wool Hemp warp waiting for the Otter Lake project to come off IDA...sewing yardage again. And finally we finished up a tiny project for @timholt23 ...his own wool-bast fiber blend, made into a table runner and place mats! We are just busy busy busy in the studio these days, and the new 2025 clip is just starting to come off the sheep and into the mills!

A lot going on this week! Finished projects include a very short sample warp of a new wool hemp blend yarn from @battenkillfibers ; an inventory of dyed yarns for returning customer @hildenethelincolnfamilyhome ; a new beaming of a lovely medium wool breed for a short set of 5 blankets to filled with a deep spruce green in herringbone; some gorgeous yardage of Gotland warp with Romeldale weft for @otter_lake_farm and finally a huge amount of calculating for a large dye job before beginning weaving for @hurricanehillri So, lots on our plate this week, and that's just how we like it!

Busy couple of weeks...lots of dyeing...37 lbs, to be exact. Projects finished for @hurricanehillri ; projects ongoing for @svtfarm ; and project beginning for @otter_lake_farm . Our new cone system of warping is improving things and we get more efficient with the work every day. I love my work! It never gets old!!
