Project updates! I can't believe how much we have

Project updates! I can't believe how much we have going on this week...the Atwater-Bronson lace scarves for @willowpondsheepfarm finally came off the loom and finished. The cutting and sewing, and final pressing, takes a bit of time but I love seeing the stacks! The second project being beamed is also for Willow Pond Farm, a set of #eastfriesiansheep blankets with a natural cream warp and that lovely #indigo dyed wool (from a few weeks back) for weft. On the loom is @svtfarm gorgeous longwool weaving up into poncho blanks.

I love the constant variety of wool that arrives at the studio door: East Friesian is a medium wool breed...it is one of my favorites to work with, with a nice bloom, and a little bounce in the finished item. The longwools are classic English types, long staple, and strong, with very little bloom, and stays tight and flat in the finished fabric. Both can work up beautifully but require skill to show to their best advantage. That's the fun part for me!

The last project is a big set of zippered bags. We collected all the scraps of samples and trials that have accumulated over the last few years, dug deep into the button and fabric stash, and have been seeing some projects bags. These will be ready for @nysheepwool #rhinebeck2024 It's been fun to put these together and I've a great studio assistant, Phaedra, to do the project for us! She's way better at sewing than me!

Lots going on! The panels for Atwater-Bronson lace scarves for @willowpondsheepfarm are off the loom and dry. You can see the little lace element of a 4 petal bloom though it needs pressing to really show off! (Next job on these scarves). @svtfarm has 23 ponch blanks on my biggest loom, threaded, sleyed and ready to tie on. It's a lovely classic Longwood that I just adore working with. And, we are in full pouch production with 2 sizes that are using up several years worth of studio woven scraps, some of my deep stash of commercial fabrics, and my studio assistant Phaedra's amazing sewing skills. These should be ready for fall festivals and Christmas markets! Plus a little show and tell this week with a 20 year old cotton and silk duster I wove, dyed and stitched. I used to wear it to gallery openings! Fun to revisit old pieces! Last image is the growing realization that working through so much wool is producing a lot of fluff in the air, and some wools require a bit of masking up. I plan on doing this work for decades more, and I also plan on breathing through those decades 🤣🤣🤣

Seems too long since a post because I've got a lot

Seems too long since a post because I've got a lot to catch you up on🤣. Dyeing was happening for @brooklyngeneralstore ; on loom set up for @willowpondsheepfarm set of Atwater-Bronson lace work (and that project is half woven off already!); wraps off the loom and ready for pressing for @carriechalmersdesign ; and 16 throws plus a short one coming off the loom today for @windingwicksandwool ...who I found out yesterday is producing an award winning Romney bloodline for wool!! The future is always written in genetics for wool! I hope all my farmers had such a a great show season, and all my designers realize their vision in our amazing homegrown fibers in #wool #alpaca and #hemp...we are the inheritors of a lot of good genes, hard work, and tremendous skills. We have a lot to live up to, and to pass on!

Lots of new projects this week! A colorful set of throws for @windingwicksandwool on IDA the big power loom; the exciting new addition of Nate, a slightly smaller power loom (named after the previous owner) with the successful test run of 8 yards of cotton; that gorgeous blue #eastfriesiansheep wool going into Atwater-Bronson lace scarves for @willowpondsheepfarm; the lovely complex twill wraps for @carriechalmersdesign, and finally the 2024 clip of @bluepepperfarm E Friesian flock coming in for new blankets and throws ! Never a dull moment around here!
