Not much happened as planned today but we did cut

Not much happened as planned today but we did cut off and wet finish the Parterre wraps for @hildenethelincolnfamilyhome ! I love this pattern though the Atwater Bronson lace is a little stressful 🫣. But it's just so pretty when done. Steam pressing will happen on Monday.

We got a special batch of yarn from @battenkillfibers ...for NYFIC grant recipient @kristinacollinsclothing ....Kristina and I are working to develop/discover a finishing process that will allow us to be able to produce much longer warps of garment quality fabric from our NY Wools. Right now I'm limited to what I can finish myself in studio...only 15-25 yards at a time. If we can find a process to finish 100 yards, we can start to scale up production for serious cloth making!!! Exciting times!

And right in time for our excitement over beginning the grant work, @induere_to came for a few hours to show us his amazing tailoring skills....his handsewn buttonholes are a work of perfection. I learned a tremendous amount about garment quality wool cloth from Tim, and I'm so encouraged to keep working on this goal! Come back anytime!!

Finishing up a whole bunch of wraps for @hildeneth

Finishing up a whole bunch of wraps for @hildenethelincolnfamilyhome here in the workshop! Three color variations in basket weave wraps--ivory, oatmeal and a gorgeous soft blue green. Plus another run of the Parterre wraps...a design I did for them that celebrates their famous formal peony gardens in Atwater-Bronson lace. Make the opportunity to go see it this spring in peony season....just gorgeous and a healing to the spirit after our long winter. The Atwater Bronson work is a complicated threading, a lot of heddle repositioning, and 228 picks to a repeat...but worth it. Look for more pictures as I'm cutting it off today!

Busy workshop the last week ... Just finished weav

Busy workshop the last week ... Just finished weaving 11 yards of 60 inch wool hemp fabric, and got it through the wet finish process. This new yarn by @battenkillfibers has just entranced me...such a nice, supple fabric ...just can't stop petting it! 9 yards may be available ($150/linear yard) ...just dm me. Tons of dyeing for @hurricanehillri ...soon to be going into wraps in this lustrous Longwool from Rhode Island. Plus beginning warping on a project with some English wool from a very old Yorkshire mill, Knox...fun to work with that heritage! And working on adding individual tension devices to my cone stand....turning it into a tensioned creel. The finer wools I'm doing demand better tension control in the beaming. It will be exciting to see how this new element changes the work! And lastly, the first daffodils in my yard...all alone for now, but others will follow! Happy Spring everyone!!!

Today is one of the sacred days in my workshop cal

Today is one of the sacred days in my workshop calendar! For several years now I've had the deep pleasure of helping out with skirting at @bluepepperfarm , a wonderful sheep dairy in Upper Jay NY. It is sometimes bitter cold but today was sunny and we were quite comfy in shirt sleeves. I dearly love weaving with East Friesian wool, and I love even more being part of the entire process, seeing the good care given to these healthy animals, sorting and bagging the fleeces, designing and weaving, and finally handing the best blankets I can make back to Shannon and Tyler. Being an integral part of the whole process is a blessing to me. My studio assistants and I took the whole day as a mental health re-charging session. It was wonderful....images are unshorn sheep, the view of Whiteface from the skirting table, the skirting table, the first sheep shorn, our skilled helpers in loading the truck, the last sheep shorn, and the shorn flock. Tomorrow is back to work inside, but today was sunny breezes, laughing friends, hard working hands, and backs, in some gorgeous fleeces, and reconnecting to the whole process.
