Just to prove I'm not a weaving robot....I didn't get my amaryllis bulbs potted up for winter blooming last year, so I stuck them in the ground near my rhubarb about 6 weeks ago...I think they will be summer bulbs, like dahlias, from now on! I've never seen them so healthy, and propagating, with little side bulbs.

A solid article in the July August issue of Scientific American on how damaging fast fashion has been, how wasteful of resources. The Hudson Valley Textile Project got mentioned as front and center of a global reimagining of the possibilities for sustainable, durable textiles that are far more supportive of conserving resources and protecting the environment, as well as safeguarding human lives and communities. I am so proud to be part of this work, and humbled to be among those innovators working to generate a better model for textiles.

All sorts of activity in and out of the workshop this week! My incredibly capable and brilliant Michael is rebuilding a new-to-us cone winder. Once it's up and running we will be so much more efficient in warping that our scheduling time might decrease by half! That lump of an electrical motor, about 100 lbs, is what will drive the whole thing, after we find an appropriate VFD to convert our single phase power to 3 phase. Complicated! But we do have the help of a nearby Dunkin Doughnuts in the work. That bag is very important in keeping the small pieces from being lost. I understand now why there are so many guys in pickup trucks in line at Dunkin every morning...they need those bags to keep greasy parts and bolts safe. I get it!

Two looms running....Nate with @lisarickenbaugh gorgeous western wool design...going into pillows for resale; and IDA with a set of very fine thread throws for another customer looking for fancy wraps...these will be color block work in a simple 2/2 twill. A final wide beam of #targhee from and for @montanawoolco is up next on IDA; and I thought you would enjoy a close up of the new tension control I have now in beaming warps...another brilliant design and construction by Michael. Individual thread tension is incredibly good with these warps! Plus we are getting closer to finishing up the State Fair bags!
