Finally done with the equipment moving and getting

Finally done with the equipment moving and getting set up to begin production again! I'm getting warps onto 3 looms. My 2 power looms have test warps tied on, required to test the settings and shuttle alignments, and all the compressed air hosing, but my PDL, Stella, has a 'real' warp of @battenkillfibers lovely wool hemp blend. I call that color burnt sugar and it's just gorgeous. A pleasure to get back to working, and with Luka, the studio pup, too. He seems excited to come most mornings but he'll need a thicker bed on these concrete floors 😬.

And here's the ongoing work....compressors, heddles and harnesses, a small batch of scarves, and a beamed warp of wool and hemp waiting for a working loom😬

Gradually putting it all back together ...hooking

Gradually putting it all back together ...hooking up the compressor hoses, and connectors, sorting out yarn storage, rethreading heddles, and hanging harnesses on my Stella loom (an AVL PDL). The studio is a complex place. I did get a small batch of scarves woven and I've a few beams waiting for a working loom. The flowers are just hopeful reminders of spring on a cool grey April day.

Big news for the studio---after more than a year o

Big news for the studio---after more than a year of anticipation (and not a little anxiety), I've finally moved to a new location within the Shirt Factory Complex in Glens Falls NY. It's the first time that my studio has all its equipment in one place, and not in my house. I've got 1500 square feet of light industrial space at 182 Maple St, Unit B. It's the old Higgins Candy location, directly across the parking lot from Rock Hill Bakery. My landlord Eric Unkauf has done a fabulous job of renovating the space for me. The Shirt Factory maintenance guys have been great from cutting the door, and installing a recycled front door, to lots of lights, and electrical outlets, to a dedicated compressor space and good concrete floors. It's a long term dream and I can't believe it's come to pass. I've got all my looms in place (though still putting them back together after the move), and a few more coming in May. I'll be back into production in another week, though there will be a short break in June for knee replacement (another long time coming sort of thing). I'm so excited to be finally able to bring all my resources together in producing some fabulous cloth out of our fantastic NE wool, alpaca and hemp fibers. There is a bit of a road ahead to getting it all up and going, but I can't help but be joyous about my new space. Drop by and see me. I'm not there quite full time yet but most days. I've already had my first customer in the studio, picking up her gorgeous California Red wool blankets and throws. They were the last project completed at my old studio on the power loom, and the first to be delivered through the new. It was amazing to show Eileen around and talk about possibilities!
